Before the Order, before the Fall and the Malediction, there was the Astarian Paradux, the the greatest empire the world had ever seen. It had ruled the continent of Selejia and much of the world beyond from its capital city of Osterath. The legends tell that the Astarians possessed power to rival that of the Everlasting. They could shape the land to their will, conjure the elements, heal the most grievous of wounds, and stave off death for so long that they may as well have been immortal. They had been granted this power by the Everlasting themselves and entrusted with a divine mission: The Astarian Paradux would spread the word and wisdom of the Everlasting through the world and manifest their grand vision for all mortal beings. They would accomplish this by making use of the Everlasting Relics that they had gathered in Osterath, taking them from the kingdoms that had joined the empire, often by right of conquest. The Greatest among these was the Throne of Astaris.

The Throne was the greatest of the Everlasting Relics and key to the realization of the grand vision. No one knows what truly happened on the cursed day of the Fall, but the Throne, a Relic created and granted by the Everlasting themselves, was shattered. Some say the forces that sieged the city did it, to prevent the return of the Everlasting. Others say the very servants of the Throne destroyed it, to keep its awesome power from the hands of the wicked. Whatever the case, no one can conceive of a force capable of sundering such a powerful artifact, but all can agree that this last act was the catalyst for the Fall.

The Order of the Shattered Throne was founded by the survivors of Osterath, the few who were protected by the shards of the Throne, and the denizens of the empire who lived on faraway lands. They settled the vales of Dynas, a vast region of fertile land cradled by the northern mountains of Selejia. There they toiled for millennia to build a great kingdom wholly dedicated to the cause of the Everlasting. To the members of the order, the conquest of the continent and the reestablishment of the empire is not just about control, it is a matter of faith and dogma. The Everlasting, Gods and benefectors of the Order, cannot return to the world if it’s not cleansed of the corruption and wickedness that brought about the Fall.

There are two main organizations within the Order, working in tandem to forward their goals. The Valcarist Church was created to safeguard the Order from spiritual dangers and to safeguard and regulate the use of Relics recovered from the Malediction. The Knight of Charn are nobles, all descendants of Relic wielders who have been deemed as heroes and saints of the faction. They hold the military power within the Order and are responsible for excursions beyond the walls of Dynas, be it to the Malediction or to other Nations in need of “pacifying”.

The Order intends to recover the shards of the Shattered Throne, and any other Relics still lost within the Malediction. Once they do so, they will reforge the Throne of Astaris and use it to heal the wounds left by the Fall. The Malediction is one such wound, but the very existence of other independent nations is another. These other factions watch the Order closely, knowing that once it’s done fighting the Malediction and the Primal Blood it will be coming for them.
